Living with Grief
A Meditation Workshop

You will experience how to connect with a state of balance as your grief becomes less of a burden and more of a healing process. Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D) is estimated to affect 10 million Americans and is more common to arise during the late Fall and stick around through the Winter months. Also known as the "winter blues", SAD can bring about similar symptoms found in other kinds of depression such as thoughts of hopelessness and sadness, a tendency to oversleep, a drop in energy level, avoidance of social situations, fatigue, irritability, and/or difficulty concentrating. Although there is no known cause to SAD, many have theorized that it is related to the amount of melatonin in the body. Light is known to suppress this hormone's production and therefore in the winter, where there is much less natural light, there is an extended amount of melatonin being released into the body. There are also beliefs that lower body temperature is associated with sleep which can explain sleep-wake cycle issues and therefore symptoms of fatigue and hypersomnia.
How can meditation help?
Meditation is known to help students who practice regularly, reduce negative thought patterns and improve ability to concentrate. Studies have also shown that brain signaling increases in the left side of the prefrontal cortex which is responsible for positive emotions. There is also an increase in self-awareness and acceptance which ultimately leads to overall well-being. Being able to slow thoughts down through breath and guided meditation, this workshop is geared to helping participants become more aware, accepting, and in control over their thoughts and emotions.
FREE Meditation Workshop
Join Lindsay for a one hour, seated workshop designed to alleviate stress and anxiety through the use of yoga nidra, various breathing techniques and a guided meditation. This workshop is set up for those who may be new to meditation and curious about how to bring more awareness and control into their emotional state as well as for those who want to find more relaxation in their daily life.
Yoga Nidra or "yogi sleep" is a sleep-like state which can be achieved through meditation. It is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness. Yoga Nidra has been found to reduce tension and anxiety by helping to alleviate common symptoms such as headaches, giddiness, chest pains, heart palpitations, sweating, and abdominal pains. During this workshop, Yoga Nidra will be introduced in order to help participants feel calmer and at ease.
Various forms of Yogic Breathing will also be introduced and demonstrated to help participants gain practical skills in reducing anxiety in their daily lives. Alternate Nostril Breathing or Nadi Sodhana is a form of Pranayama in Yoga that helps clean and rejuvenate vital channels of energy. Also, introduced in this workshop will be the 3-part breath which brings groundedness, calm, and focus into the practice.
